Coperni was founded in 2013 in Paris by Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant, both Institut Français de la Mode alumni who had previously held roles at Courrèges before launching their own line. The brand's foundational thesis was specific: take the futurist-Parisian vocabulary of 1960s-era Courrèges and André Courrèges' moon-girl aesthetic, and rewrite it for the 2010s-2020s with a heavy emphasis on technical fabric, digital-first marketing, and viral runway moments. The Coperni vocabulary settled around several specific products: the Swipe Bag (a curved-handle leather mini-bag launched in 2020 that became the brand's first commercial hit), the Air Swipe Bag (an inflatable plastic translucent iteration), and a continuous run of architectural ready-to-wear with technical-fabric body-conscious cuts. The brand's S/S 2023 show became a global viral moment when Bella Hadid was sprayed with the Fabrican liquid-fabric formulation live on the runway to create a dress in real time. Coperni is owned by Tomorrow Ltd (the London-based showroom-and-investment platform that also holds A-Cold-Wall*, Martine Rose, and Wales Bonner).
