Reike Nen

Founded

Reike Nen was founded in 2014 in Seoul by Korean designer Yoon-mi Lee as a contemporary Korean-anchored footwear brand specifically focused on what Lee described as 'sculptural-architectural footwear at the contemporary luxury-design level.' The brand's foundational thesis was specific: produce contemporary women's footwear that drew explicitly on architectural-sculpture references (the Brutalist-architecture tradition, mid-century-Korean ceramic aesthetics, contemporary Korean-art visual culture), at a contemporary luxury price tier (€300-€800). The Reike Nen vocabulary settled around several specific footwear products: the iconic 'Square' loafer (the brand's defining product, a square-toed leather loafer with deliberately exaggerated proportions and architectural construction that became one of the most-collected post-2015 contemporary-women's loafer products), the 'Pillar' heeled-pump series, the 'Disc' mary-jane variations, the long-running 'Half-Round' ballerina-and-pump series, and a colour palette anchored to natural-tan, washed-charcoal, oxblood, ecru, washed-navy, plus the brand's recurring use of saturated red-and-yellow accent combinations. Production is anchored to Korean and Italian boot-and-shoe workshops. The brand is independent and held by Lee. Reike Nen operates flagship retail in Seoul (Hannam-dong — the brand's home neighbourhood) plus international wholesale through SSENSE, MR PORTER, MATCHES, Net-a-Porter, Mytheresa, Lane Crawford, Boontheshop, the Webster, and a curated set of contemporary-luxury-footwear specialty retailers globally. The brand has been one of the defining post-2014 Korean-anchored contemporary-women's footwear brands, with the sculptural-architectural-footwear positioning specifically anchoring the brand inside the contemporary 'Korean-luxury-footwear-export' conversation that has been continuously rewritten since 2018.
