Maison Dongliang

Maison Dongliang opened in October 2024 as the Shanghai flagship of the 栋梁 retail group, housed in a restored century-old European-style standalone villa on Wukang Road in the Xuhui District's heritage corridor. The opening marked Dong Liang's fifteenth anniversary and a deliberate widening of the buyer brief: where the Beijing stores have always been anchored to mainland-Chinese independent designers, the Shanghai maison was conceived as a global-luxury multi-brand destination where curated international labels would sit alongside the Chinese designers the group built its reputation on. The three-story villa keeps the existing architecture — tiled fireplaces, parquet, leaded windows — and inserts dedicated brand corners rather than department-store racks. The Row, Maison Margiela, Lemaire, Our Legacy and exclusive collaboration pieces anchor the international floor, with a programme of artisanal homewares and interior objects rotating through the upper rooms. Alongside the global brands, the store continues to stock the Chinese designer roster that defines Dong Liang's identity — Uma Wang, Sankuanz, Comme Moi, Caroline Hu — making the Shanghai store one of the few mainland-China retail rooms where a customer can buy Phoebe Philo and a Chinese independent designer's piece in the same visit. The Wukang Road location is deliberate. The street is Shanghai's best-preserved French Concession heritage corridor, lined with 1920s and 1930s villas now hosting independent boutiques, cafes and design studios, and is the primary destination for Shanghai shoppers who want to browse rather than be malled. Maison Dongliang opening here, rather than at IFC or Plaza 66, signals that the group is betting the future of Chinese multi-brand retail is in heritage neighbourhoods, not in luxury malls.
