Dover Street Market New York
Dover Street Market New York opened in December 2013 in a seven-floor freestanding building on Lexington Avenue at 30th Street, in a building purchased and renovated by Comme des Garçons. The store was the third Dover Street Market location and was conceived to be a slightly larger, more spaciously laid-out version of the London concept, with more dramatic vertical circulation and a particularly strong food-and-bookstore programme on the ground floor and upper levels.
The Dover Street Market New York vocabulary settled around several practices specific to the NY store: a ground-floor Rose Bakery café (the largest of the three Rose Bakery DSM locations), an upper-floor Comme des Garçons section, brand-installation spaces (Junya Watanabe, Sacai, Undercover, Visvim, Off-White, Heron Preston, Supreme, Marine Serre, JW Anderson, Wales Bonner, Aimé Leon Dore), a particularly strong men's and women's Comme des Garçons archive selection, and the iconic seven-floor escalator atrium with rotating large-scale installation art.
Dover Street Market New York is owned by Comme des Garçons Co. Ltd. The NY store moved from Lexington Avenue to a larger, more architecturally ambitious location in early 2024 — the store re-opened on Lexington Avenue at 22nd Street in a renovated former hotel building. The store remains a defining destination of New York luxury-and-streetwear retail, and is the primary US-domestic flagship for many of the Japanese and European brands that are otherwise difficult to access outside of London or Tokyo.
