HBX (Hypebeast Marketplace) launched in 2012 in Hong Kong as the e-commerce arm of the Hypebeast media platform, which had been founded by Kevin Ma in 2005 as a streetwear news blog and grown into one of the most-trafficked streetwear-and-luxury media destinations globally. The brand's foundational thesis was specific: leverage Hypebeast's editorial and traffic position to build a direct-to-consumer luxury-streetwear marketplace anchored to the brands that the Hypebeast platform was covering editorially.
The HBX vocabulary settled around several distinguishing practices: a buyer-led brand list anchored to the streetwear-meets-luxury overlap (Off-White, Palm Angels, A-Cold-Wall*, Heron Preston, Aimé Leon Dore, Stüssy, BAPE, plus the major LVMH and Kering houses), exclusive collaboration capsules anchored to Hypebeast editorial moments, the HBX Archive resale platform for limited-edition streetwear, and a strong sneaker programme covering Nike, Adidas, and the major collaboration sneaker releases. The Hong Kong flagship — the HBX store on On Lan Street, Central — operates alongside the Pop-Up programme in major Asian cities.
HBX is owned by Hypebeast Limited, the Hong Kong-listed publicly-traded parent company. The platform operates a flagship in Hong Kong (Central) and ships globally from Hong Kong fulfilment plus a US fulfilment hub. The retailer stocks approximately 400 brands and has been a defining force in surfacing streetwear-meets-luxury inventory for the Greater Chinese, Southeast Asian, and global English-speaking customer base that Hypebeast had built editorially since 2005.
