Mytheresa was founded in 1987 in Munich as a small physical boutique by Susanne and Christoph Botschen, originally selling a tightly curated multi-brand luxury womenswear selection at the Theresienstraße address that gave the store its name. The brand's e-commerce platform launched in 2006 and grew through the late 2000s and 2010s into one of Europe's defining luxury-online platforms, particularly known for early access to Italian and French luxury inventory. The Mytheresa vocabulary settled around several distinguishing things: a buyer-led brand list anchored to the major LVMH, Kering, and Richemont houses (Bottega Veneta, Loewe, Saint Laurent, Givenchy, Balenciaga, Gucci, Prada, Miu Miu, Brunello Cucinelli, Loro Piana) plus carefully chosen contemporary brands (The Row, Khaite, Bottega Veneta, Toteme, Aimé Leon Dore, Wales Bonner), the iconic Mytheresa exclusive capsules with major designers, and a highly editorial product page with original photography. The 2024 acquisition of Net-a-Porter Group by Mytheresa was a defining moment of the post-2023 online-luxury consolidation. Mytheresa was acquired by Neiman Marcus Group in 2014 and IPO'd on the NYSE in January 2021 at a valuation around $2.2B. The company has since been renamed LuxExperience after the 2024 Net-a-Porter acquisition. The platform operates the original Theresienstraße Munich flagship (now operated as an experiential luxury concept space) and ships globally from German and US fulfilment centres. The platform stocks approximately 250 brands across womenswear, menswear, kids, and home — one of the more disciplined buyer lists in the post-2020 online-luxury platform conversation.
