Checks Downtown

Auckland designer Jordan Gibson launched Checks Downtown in 2017 with a brief he describes as 'reinventing casual American style in a way which wasn't being appreciated in the US'. The unisex label sits between workwear, tailoring and skate—rugbys, varsity knits, baggy chinos, all rendered in dusty palettes and unexpected fabrics. Tokyo's Journal Standard and New York's Rowing Blazers carry the line, and Checks has become the cult-favourite engine of Auckland's contemporary streetwear renaissance.
