Lardini was founded in 1978 in Filottrano, in the Marche region of Italy, by brothers Andrea, Lorenzo, and Luigi Lardini as a small tailoring workshop specifically focused on producing soft-shouldered, fully-canvassed Italian-tailored jackets for the regional Italian menswear trade. The brand's foundational thesis was specific and craft-driven: produce the highest-grade fully-canvassed jackets in the soft-Italian-shoulder tradition (with hand-finished detail, hand-padded chest construction, and Neapolitan-inspired pickup sleeve heads) while remaining a quietly family-controlled workshop rather than scaling into a luxury-house format. The Lardini vocabulary settled around several specific products: the iconic soft-shouldered single-breasted blazer (in shifting seasonal fabrics from Italian-and-Japanese-mill wools, linen, cotton, and tropical-wool), double-breasted variants in the same fully-canvassed tradition, tailored trousers in matching fabrics, knitwear from the Lardini Knitwear division, and a colour palette anchored to navy, mid-grey, charcoal, taupe, oxblood, and seasonal Italian-summer-resort colour combinations. The brand has done long-running collaborations with Boglioli, Lubiam, and the broader Italian unstructured-tailoring tradition retailers. The brand remains independent and family-controlled by the Lardini brothers through three generations (Andrea Lardini and his sons currently lead the company). Lardini operates flagship retail in Milan (Brera, Via Solferino), Rome, Florence, Tokyo (Aoyama, Daikanyama), Hong Kong, Shanghai, plus a wide international wholesale presence through MR PORTER, MATCHES, the major Italian and European luxury menswear specialty retailers, Beams Plus, and the broader Japanese department-store distribution. Few Italian heritage tailoring houses of the Marche region have remained so continuously family-controlled while building a substantial global luxury-menswear presence.
