Dover Street Market Beijing opened in March 2019 in the Sanlitun district of Beijing as the sixth Dover Street Market location globally (after London, Tokyo, New York, Singapore, and Los Angeles). The store was housed in a six-floor freestanding building at the I.T. Department Store building on Sanlitun South Road, designed by the Comme des Garçons in-house design team with a particularly architectural focus on integrating Chinese-traditional materials and the contemporary brand-installation language that has defined the DSM format since 2004. The Dover Street Market Beijing vocabulary settled around several practices specific to the Beijing store: a six-floor building structure with each floor anchored to a specific brand-installation context, an upper-floor Comme des Garçons section, brand-installation spaces (Junya Watanabe, Sacai, Undercover, Visvim, Off-White, Wales Bonner, JW Anderson, Heron Preston, ERL, Marine Serre, plus a particularly strong selection of Chinese-mainland designers including Pronounce, Feng Chen Wang, Babyghost, Uma Wang, Ms MIN), the Rose Bakery Beijing café, and a deliberate-Beijing-centric brand selection that distinguishes the store from the other international DSM locations. Dover Street Market Beijing is owned by Comme des Garçons Co. Ltd in partnership with I.T Group (the Hong Kong-listed fashion-distribution group that operates the Beijing flagship under the broader DSM operational structure). The store has become one of the defining destinations of Beijing luxury-and-streetwear retail and is the primary Mainland-China DSM destination for the broader Chinese-domestic luxury customer flow. The seasonal installation programme — coordinated with the corresponding seasonal show calendars of the represented brands — has been a defining force in Beijing luxury retail since 2019.
