Concept Store
Dover Street Market LA
Dover Street Market Los Angeles opened in November 2018 on Imperial Highway in El Segundo, in a former industrial building near LAX that had been converted by Comme des Garçons into the LA flagship. The store was the fifth Dover Street Market location globally (after London, Tokyo, New York, and Singapore) and was conceived as a deliberately Californian, more sprawling, ground-level-only iteration of the DSM concept — a single-floor 15,000-square-foot space designed around LA's car-anchored retail context.
The Dover Street Market Los Angeles vocabulary settled around several practices specific to the LA store: a single-floor ground-level layout (a deliberate inversion of the multi-floor London, Tokyo, and NY DSM stores), brand-installation spaces (Junya Watanabe, Sacai, Undercover, Visvim, Off-White, Heron Preston, JW Anderson, Aimé Leon Dore, Wales Bonner, ERL, Marine Serre, Cav Empt, Carhartt WIP, Stüssy, Loverboy), a Rose Bakery LA café, and a particularly strong selection of US-anchored streetwear and California-anchored brands (Born x Raised, Bricks & Wood, Cherry LA, ERL) that the New York and London stores stock at smaller volumes.
Dover Street Market Los Angeles is owned by Comme des Garçons Co. Ltd. The store has become one of the defining destinations of Los Angeles luxury-and-streetwear retail and operates alongside the broader Comme des Garçons LA flagships in Beverly Hills (Melrose Avenue). The annual installation-changeover programme — coordinated with the corresponding seasonal show calendars of the represented brands — has been a defining force in Los Angeles luxury retail since 2018, with the LA store specifically positioning itself as the Pacific-Rim DSM destination for the Asian-Pacific luxury customer flow.
