Filippa K was founded in 1993 in Stockholm by Filippa Knutsson, Karin Segerblom, and Patrik Kihlborg as a Swedish ready-to-wear brand built around what they described as the 'Scandinavian luxury essentials' proposition: clean architectural cuts, high-grade Italian and Japanese fabrics, neutral colour palettes, and a deliberate refusal of seasonal trend-driven design noise. The brand was an early defining voice of the Scandinavian-minimalism movement that subsequently included Acne Studios, Hope, and Toteme.
The Filippa K vocabulary settled around several specific products: clean-lined wool tailoring, cashmere knitwear in neutral colours, the iconic Filippa K cotton t-shirt (the brand's defining sub-luxe essential, in shifting seasonal weights and cuts), washed-cotton button-down shirts, and a colour palette that runs from off-white to bone to taupe to navy to charcoal to black. The brand's circular-sustainability programme — including the long-running Filippa K Collect repair-and-resale service — was an early example of the post-2015 European luxury sustainability conversation.
Filippa K is independent and held by Filippa Knutsson plus several long-term Scandinavian investors. The brand operates approximately 50 flagship stores across Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, plus a substantial online presence. The brand has been continuously one of the defining voices of Scandinavian-minimalism ready-to-wear since the early 1990s, with a particular position in the European-tailoring-meets-casual-essentials conversation.
