Urban Monkey
Urban Monkey was founded in Mumbai in 2013 by Yash Gangwal, a Hong Kong-raised, Australia-educated entrepreneur who returned to India determined to give the country's underground skate and hip-hop community visual representation. The brand started with caps and skate hardware seeded directly to local rappers and skaters, including the costume team behind Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy, and now sells more than 50,000 products a year across streetwear, headwear, eyewear and accessories. Urban Monkey appeared on Shark Tank India in 2022 with three offers on the table, declined all of them, and opened its first Mumbai flagship in late 2025.
