Common People
Founded in 2010 by Monika Biringer and Max Feldman, Common People occupies a four-storey 1940s colonial mansion off Polanco's Parque Lincoln. The mission was to promote authentic Mexican designers under one roof; around 60 percent of the merchandise is local — Malafacha, indie jewelers, ceramics, handcrafted rebozos. The remaining 40 percent is a tightly edited international roster: Common People is the only Latin American retailer carrying Vivienne Westwood (an entire room is dedicated to her bags and shoes), and stocks Comme des Garçons, Maison Margiela, Melissa and MYKITA.
