Lukhanyo Mdingi
Out of East London by way of Cape Town, Lukhanyo Mdingi builds his collections around community — Burkinabé weavers in Bobo-Dioulasso, Xhosa knitters in the Eastern Cape, fishermen's mohair from the Karoo. The clothes themselves move quietly: shrouded cashmere, drift-soft silk shirting, palette borrowed from earth and oyster shell. He won the Karl Lagerfeld Prize at LVMH in 2021 and the Amiri Prize in 2023, both citing the brand's commitment to handcraft.
