Simone Rocha

Simone Rocha launched her eponymous London-based womenswear label in 2010, the same year she graduated from the Central Saint Martins MA programme. Her father is the menswear designer John Rocha (founder of his namesake Dublin-based label), but Simone's vocabulary diverged immediately into something distinct: a Romantic-Goth Irish-Catholic visual language anchored in voluminous tulle, hand-applied pearl embellishment, taffeta puff sleeves, and a deeply specific set of references to Irish funerary lace and Victorian mourning dress. The Simone Rocha vocabulary settled around several signatures: the tulle baby-doll dress with hand-embroidered pearls, the pearl-trimmed cardigan, the Bowie boot, the Pearl drop earring, the tea-length tulle skirt. The brand has presented at London Fashion Week each season since debut and was awarded the British Designer of the Year for Womenswear at the Fashion Awards in 2016. The H&M × Simone Rocha collaboration (March 2021) gave the label mass-market visibility without altering its signature vocabulary. The brand is independent and held by Rocha. Simone Rocha operates flagships in London (Mount Street, Mayfair — the brand's home store), New York (Wooster Street, Soho), and a small set of carefully chosen wholesale partners including Dover Street Market, Net-a-Porter, MATCHES, and Lane Crawford. Few designers of the 2010s London generation have built such a culturally coherent house from the MA degree show onward.
